| Make Sure The Power Is Off When Working With ElectricitySecrets on How to Pass the Master Electrician Exam
Its tough being an electrician. Its not as simple as fixing broken appliances and connecting wires. Electricians have to follow a Code and pass several tests in order to get a license. They have to perform competent work to guarantee the publics safety and health. Licenses are there to help guard the public by preventing untrained and inexperienced people from performing the job.
The electricians license is a legal and formal document. It has to be renewed regularly, and inappropriate use can cause automatic termination of the license. Licenses of electricians who perform illegal or immoral jobs can be suspended or revoked by the government. In order to get this certification, you have to comply with requirements, which usually vary from one state to another.

Normally, you have to have work experience before taking a test. You should have a specified number of hours experience working in conformity with the law under a master electrician who will sign an affidavit stating that you are qualified. Once the state licensing board verifies your credentials, you are then scheduled to take the exam.
The exam is quite challenging, particularly if you dont prepare for it. Tests are usually in written form and will assess your knowledge of electrical theory, the National Electric Code (NEC) and any local electric construction codes. Since exams are open-book, do bring with you an updated NEC copy and maybe other books including the NEC Handbook, American Electricians Handbook, Ferms Fast Finder and other materials.
Bring whatever items are permitted. If you are permitted to bring a set of index tabs attached to your Code book in your state, bring one. Using it will save you a lot of precious time. You may also be allowed to bring pencils, scratch paper, calculator, and other test items. However, highly programmed electronic calculators that can calculate problems based on the NEC are typically not allowed. Using simple calculators would be fine.

Studying and preparation is always key to passing a test. Allot 15 hours a week for one year to study. Also, if you have a journeymans license and are working, perform your work everything up to Code. For example, when performing EMT, check Article 358 and make sure you follow all Code requirements. If you have already encountered and practiced it in your work, then answering questions will be a breeze.
Dont attempt to memorize the Code. Most people cant memorize it anyway and its unnecessary. All you have to do is learn the structure of the Code so that when you encounter questions, you can look up the answers immediately, because you know where to find them (what article, what page, etc.). It helps to memorize chapter headings and be proficient in using the Table of Contents and Index. By doing so, you can save time for the tougher questions.
It is recommended that you also memorize the internal structures of some articles. Such articles include 240 Overcurrent Protection, 250 Grounding and Bonding, and 430 Motors, Motor Circuits and Controllers. If youre thoroughly familiarized with the Code structure, you will be able to pinpoint the right page that contains the answers to questions immediately. With this help, you can surely pass the electrician exam.
